Opening a Beer aka How I became an Apple fan!

When someone told me you could do this I rushed home to try it.  I could not believe how awesomely it worked.

Step 1: Get yourself a beer.  You deserve it.

Step 2: Get your Macbook charger or take the charger from the hipster next to you.

Step 3: Grip it and Rip it!

I expect CNet to include this as an item in the pro column from now on!

Fun at the Apple Store

So I went to the Apple Store to play around.

They used DNS blocking to stop jailbreakme.com, the online easy method to liberate your phone.

I asked this guy what was up with that.  He said to go on the 3g.  Great Idea!  Score 1 for the Genius Bar.

So I did that.... Look at this... Time to liberate the phone.

First we download.....

Then we jailbreak...

and now we have Cydia....

However I do not want to stay with AT&T...

I asked this dude and he said go T-Mobile!!!

iPhone FaceTime and Firewalls

As some may have discovered, showing off FaceTime on your new iPhone while on your corporate network resulted in the demo fail!

Apple has posted on their support site that to use FaceTime on a restricted Wi-Fi network, port forwarding must be enabled for ports 53, 80, 443, 4080, 5223, and 16393-16472 (UDP).

Packetstan has done some analysis of the FaceTime protocol using WireShark.

Unlimited 3G still available on IPad

Dear Apple Store Customer,

Thank you for purchasing iPad Wi-Fi + 3G.

Our records indicate you ordered iPad on or before June 6th, which qualifies you for AT&T's unlimited monthly plan for 3G data.

Because the unlimited monthly plan is not currently available from the on-device activation flow, Apple and AT&T have developed a special process so you can still sign-up for the unlimited plan. If you would like to request the unlimited plan, please do the following:
1. If you have not done so, please connect your iPad Wi-Fi + 3G to iTunes and activate your device.
2. You then need to activate the $25 2GB AT&T 3G DataPro Plan for iPad via Settings > Cellular Data. This is required for AT&T to be able to add the unlimited option to your account.
3. After you have activated the $25 2GB AT&T 3G DataPro Plan for iPad, call AT&T Customer Service at 1-800-331-0500 and an AT&T Customer Service Representative will assist you in activating the Unlimited AT&T 3G Data Plan for iPad.

As part of this process, AT&T and Apple will verify if you are eligible to take advantage of this offer. If you are determined to be ineligible, AT&T reserves the right to either cancel your data service for iPad or move you to a lower priced option. You will be able to activate service again or change your plan to any currently available AT&T 3G Data Plan for iPad at any time.

Please note: If you cancel the Unlimited AT&T 3G Data Plan for iPad or the Plan is not auto-renewed in the future, you will not be able to order the Unlimited Plan again.

You must contact AT&T on or before July 15th.

Sincerely,
The Apple Store Team

Thieves take iPad and Finger!

In the category of no good deed goes unpunished, a man went to get a iPad for a friend and not only had the iPad stolen from him but also lost his pinkie finger.

He had been asked by a co-worker in Canada to pick him up a iPad. As he was leaving the store with the new iPad, two thieves grabbed for the iPad bag and began to yank. Unfortunately, though the man tried to let go, the thick Apple bag’s cord stayed stuck around his fingers and would not release.

Gore alert: the cord ended up shearing the flesh and tendons from the 59 year old victim’s finger. The only thing that remained was the bone which had to be amputated later at the hospital. The whole incident was captured on surveillance but as of writing this, no arrests have been made.

The victim did have a few choice words for the thieves, however, saying that they had changed his life forever for a piece of technology which will be junk in a couple of years.

Sadly, the victim had moved from New Jersey to Colorado to get away from a crime that had been committed 15 years ago.
